Re: Encore: Bluray Project Flicks At Menu Loop Point

I use motion menues in every Blu-ray project i do and stopped using the Loop Point feature for some years ago. I use the fade up video in a Menu as First Play and set the Loop to None and then set End Action of the intro to the main menu. By doing this i don´t have to use the Loop Point feature.

By doing this the glitch caused by the Loop Pint feature is gone.

Intro in a separate file+menues in a separate file/s is the way to go if seameless menues is your goal.

EDIT:

If using the Loop Point: Be aware of that a Loop Point always must point at an I-frame. So if your transition ends at 00:00:05:00 the Loop Point can´t be set to 00:00:05:00, it will find the nearest I-frame which is either 00:00:04:24 or 00:00:05:03. I have a gut feeling that your Loop Point points to a point where the transition has not finished, thus the issue. No matter what, using the Loop Point feature will never create seamless menues.

Thanks for posting this. I remembered you had an alternative method, but could not find a thread that described it.

Build DVD-project to ISO; result is not working at all

Hi all,

I really hope someone can help me with my issue, since I‘m really lost and hope to finish my dvd before Christmas so I can view it with my family.

Here’s my problem: I’m using Encore CS6 for the first time, and made a DVD-project for viewing a family movie in whole or in separate chapters. With the help of Youtube-tutorials this has all gone well so far; I’ve built a menu, made a custom design for it, and created 4 submenus with buttons to the 38 separate chapters. From the main menu, the entire movie can also be started.

It all works well and looks nice when i take a look using ‘Preview’. Also, the ‘check project’ option doesn’t find any errors. However, when I build a DVD to a video folder or ISO image, the result is NOT a working DVD file. I’ve tried mounting the ISO image and opening it with VLC, or opening the ISO directly with Kodi. All to the same result: a black video screen with the progress bar somewhere at around 3/4, but with nothing playing. There’s no way to get the Main menu to show up. When I export to ‘video folder’ (or ‘dvd folder’, can’t remember now), the result is the same. The video file is in that folder though, so I know the media have been exported.

At this point I really don’t know what it can be that’s going wrong, and I’m getting a little nervous about getting the DVD ready before Christmas. Does anyone recognize this sort of behavior, or know how to tackle this problem? It’s pretty frustrating, since the Preview is just looking fine!

Any help would be appreciated, thanks a lot!!

best,

Jentse (Netherlands)

Does it work if you burn a disc and use a normal dvd player?

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your quick reply! I haven't tried burning it yet, since I wanted to build an ISO and burn it to disc with Imgburn, as many users seem to prefer on this forum. However I can give it a try!

To check if my sequence or project was faulty, I just started a new project from scratch with a default menu and a newly imported sequence. Built an ISO with it, which seems to work perfectly.

Which makes me wonder... could a custom designed menu result in a faulty ISO or DVD?

I'll try and burn the first project directly to disc nonetheless, I'll let you know the outcome.

cheers,

Jentse

Hi Richard,

Well... burning a disc did the trick! I built the project to a DVD and tried it in my Marantz BR-player, and it all works as it should.

Why a disc works but an ISO doesn't is completely beyond me... if you (or anyone) knows what could cause this behavior, I'd really like to know.

Anyway, thanks a lot for your reply! You made my day sir.

All the best and happy holidays,

Jentse

I'm glad it works,

I have never been able to play an ISO but the discs are usually fine.

An iso usually works. But many software emulators (VLC included) do not do a good job on the subtleties of the DVD specs. A plain custom menu should not be a problem, but I suspect that might make a difference.

I always used Total media theater which did a better job than any others I found. But it is now out of date.

Curious: does the disk play on the computer with VLC?

Hmm... I have never had a problem doing Encore to ISO to Imgburn to DVD and play at my TV

But, I have never tried to directly play the ISO on my computer, only burn to DVD

So I don't know if a custom menu would cause a problem with playing an ISO

Next time I create an ISO I will try to remember to open it with VLC and see if it plays on my computer

I have finished a hour long video and now I am ready to burn to a DVD to be able to watch on TV.  I have burned several times and it will play fine on my computer after burning, but will not play on my DVD player.  I have tried several players and its not the players.  What am I doing wrong?

I go to Export and share and hit disc.  A message pops up that states "some of the menus items are overlapping! Please move or resize them.  I just close that box, and moved on.  I don't know if that would affect the burn or not.  I click on SD 576, the largest resolution and click on disc, not IOS image and then burn.

So, where am I going wrong?  It won't play on my player?  HELP!!!!!

Where does the 1280x544 sizing come from? That is not a normal "video" size at all. If that is the actual size of the source video, then it might help the quality to use a 720p sequence (1280x720) for editing then when you export to DVD using a widescreen preset, size conversion will not be weird. Will be 16:9 to 16:9.

Also, when you say the .m2v is desynched - are you exporting the .m2v with sound contained in it, or as a separate file? When exporting as MPEG-2 DVD, Multiplexing should be set to NONE, which is the default. If you set to DVD, it will cause issues in Encore which prefers the separate audio and video files.

Thanks

Jeff

Unfortunately, I am still finding a flicker in the menu after trying (Averdahl)'s method.

Is there any other way, or should I consider a different approach?

Also, may I ask what an "I-frame" is?

If a menu is one minute long and it comes to it´s end there will never be a seamless jump back to the start of the menu. I see this in mass produced Blu-rays as well. Workaround it by doing the menu longer. How long are your menu today?

How are you viewing the result, on a tv set from a burned Blu-ray disc of are you using software on a computer?

It would be great if you can film it so one can see how it actually looks and when it happens and how it looks. If the menu is interlaced it will always look bad while if the menu is progressive it will look good.

I have exactly the same problem. The error lies with the last chapter marker. You´r just not allowed not put it directly to the end. Push him a few frames forward and it should work

I am now using CD Burner XP.  I have successfully burnt DVD and Blu-ray discs from an Image File.  When I burn a DVD it gives the option of selecting DVD High Compability.  Do I need to select this option?  This option does not occur when I burn a Blu-ray disc.

You did not indicate if it is necessary to select DVD High Compability.
