Thank you. I appreciate your time. I could not have taken away pixilation without this. I really appreciate it.

DVD is what it is: Standard Definition.

Also when playing a dvd on a HDtv one should use a Bluray player which upscales dvd's.

Ask the client if they will settle for a HD movie on flash drive, if they have a HDtv and no Blurayplayer.

Will using Media Encoder help any? They mentioned that when I called regarding this problem.

You are already using AME.

Re: Encore error code 3 vas file

This error is not common.

Encore uses a lot of temporary space to create a Blu-ray, whether to burn or create an image.

Look at Encore preferences for the location of the cache files and check space on the drive for the Encore project location.

I do not see this as an error for filename, but Encore can have problems with filenames that include special characters (like the ampersand - &).

One user on Windows 10 reporting fixing this issue by running in windows 7 compatibilitay mode.

Always run Encore "as administrator."

Let us know how it goes.

I create videos in Premiere with the H.264 codec.  I upload the videos to my Vimeo account.  I then email my clients a link to Vimeo.  They can download the original file.  If they have a television that will accept a flash drive, they can play the video. Also, the video can be played on a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, etc.

Can I have an audio-only blu-ray

I've generated a Blu-ray disk for testing a new projector and speakers. I've got black-level test, white level test, colour test, and the end I thought I'd put on a few music tracks for testing the speakers (instead of taking a separate CD). I didn't bother with any video for those audio-only tracks.

Problem: when I ask Encore to output to a Blu-ray folder on a USB stick, and play that folder on my Oppo, the player does not recognise that there is music beyond the last video; and neither does a Blu-ray ripper I've got.

However, when I delve into the Blu-ray folder, the audio-only m2ts files are there, and VLC can play them.

Is it possible to put just audio on a Blu-ray, and have Blu-ray players recognise and play the audio?

Works for me with stereo.

I imported a stereo .wav "as timeline." Project set to transcode it to a3c. Linked it to a button, and it plays.

I tested by  building to a BD folder; played with Power DVD 17.

I wondered if, when you said "music beyond the last video," if y ou added the audio to the end of an audio/video timeline. But when I added the wav to my main timeline, it still works.

What format audio?

Oops! I'm wrong. I did not actually complete the playback of the "audio on the same timeline as main timeline." The playback shows a track length of only the part with video, and stops. There is no track or chapter read for the audio only. Yes, there an m2ts that plays back as the audio only section.

I reverted so I was transcoded everything in the project; same result.

So you can try to achieve your goal by putting the audio only on its own Encore timeline.

I wonder if a playlist would then give you a "play all."

Funny setup that Encore can't handle no video. Premiere does, and it's what I'm doing right now: importing the music into Premiere, and exporting so I get the exact length of black video needed for Encore. Premiere offers a "Black" video as one of its "New" items, but it's not needed – Premiere realises that no video means "black video"

Anyway, thanks for trying to solve the problem.

To be clear, I'm saying it works if the audio-only stream is in its own Encore timeline.

I just tested, and you can get a play all by putting the timelines in a playlist.

Thank, Stan, for the solution/workaround.

Pity that Encore doesn't treat no video as "black" video, like Premiere does.

Fake Chapter

One more thing: in the middle of one of the songs when Built to Blu-ray, my Blu-ray player is recognising a chapter marker. That marker is not in the black video in Premiere, it does not appear in Encore, but both my player and ripper see it and respond to it as a chapter.

The song, 2:45 in duration, is third in the timeline (not playlist), and the fake chapter appears at 1:05 in that song.

Any ideas how to delete something that Encore thinks is not there? I removed all markers and then put them back, but this fake one is still there.

Search "Phantom Menu" and you'll see similar issues. No single fix or workaround.

I believe these are usually a corrupt project file. But one in which the disk will often build, and you may have no other problem. Encore is very unforgiving when it has problems. The chances of a corrupt project increase as you make changes. The best Encore project is one done with no changes after you've sorted out all the options.

Generally, and because of a variety of problems, I have learned never to put multiple files on one Encore timeline. But it is allowed, and Encore usually handles those okay as long as they are not gop files.

Do you see any issues in the "check project" on the build tab? If something shows, sometimes, that will allow you to click to get to a problem area.

The worst case is having to recreate the Encore project from scratch. (Of course, the worst case is doing that and discovering the marker still exists!)

I would do a "save as" (by way of having a backup) and try clearing cache files.

"Check Project" is okay.

Deleted a whole heap of preferences and cache files – fake marker still there.

I think I'll just put up with the extra marker. Thanks for all your help.

I think that's the right decision here! Thanks for reporting.

Can you link to market data supporting the statement that "while some users do still need to burn DVDs, the vast majority do not"?  That does not remotely match my experience.  Outside of vlogging, getting most of my customers to accept streamed content is like pulling teeth.  They want something physical they can handle, store, and find.  Generational, maybe?  Look, I'm not judging; I'm just reporting.  I can't sell yet without DVDs or BluRays.

Two side notes:

(1) I too read that appalling story of the underwriters of the DVD authoring code being bought and then closed by a company with a financial interest in solely streamed content.  Ah, to be Karma to those vermin.

(2) You know, you could say "The 'long time to re-render audio' claim was corrected above" -- which it was; and I appreciate that it was.  We are all here to learn appreciatively from each other, not to "thoroughly debunk" each other.

Stan, nice addition.  Belated thanks.  For anyone else, the button routing in Stan's link starts on page 94 (link to that in the TOC).  This may help since Stan's second link no longer seems to hop straight to that page.

I too started having this problem.  I do not use Encore more than a few times a year.  It worked a few months ago but is not working now.  I will try the run as administrator suggestion but any new information on this problem?  In March 2017 there was a thread talking about how some Microsoft Windows 10 security patches broke Encore but mine was working in early 2018 so this was probably not my issue.

Is the source footage verified to be 1080i? If source is 1080p and you edit in 1080i sequence, that will certainly mess with quality

Thanks

Encore woes

I apologize if this has in fact been answered but I havnt been able to find an answer that applies.

I have been using encore 5.5...for years...professionally.

This week, it has been opening to a black screen...as if the interface settings have been forgotten.

So after resetting the interface, I expected no problems.

Instead, I found encore 5.5 to be very prone to freeze up...not responding blah blah

I have been trying to burn BluRay discs, which I have done hundreds of times over the years.

I keep getting an error code 3 unable to open file blah blah.

I have gone and deleted the script files its pointing to.

I have cleaned the caches, I have deleted all preview files for adobe, I am a creative cloud subscriber so I downloaded and installed encore CS6, assuming that would solve the problem but it hasnt.

I have gone back to premiere several times and re-exported the files with bluray264.

Always the same error.

It cant be the burner, because even when I try to create a bluray image file, I get the same error.

Help, please
