Re: Encore error code 3 vas file

I have gone another route.  I want to be done with stupid Encore.  I still have to use it for now to put together a disc image/ISO file, but I am burning the disc image with another software.  There are a number of them out there, and I went with Ashampoo Burning Studio 19.  Very simple, intuitive, and effective.  I don't understand how Adobe makes professional software, but walks away from Encore with no replacement offered.  Ridiculous.  I would also like to find a good software to author discs from after the Adobe Media Encoder is finished rendering.  I wish I never had to deal with Encore again, and I will eventually get there.

I'm on my phone and can't send you the link. Do a search in the encore forum for "alternatives."

So it looks like the disc image process worked!  I finally successfully burned the BD with chapters using this method.

At first it gave me a Code 0 error message about 15 minutes after starting so I put in a  different disc and it worked.  I am now burning 20 more and expect them to work properly.

This was a weird one, but thank you Stan for pushing me to do the disc image.

You're welcome. Flexibility is always required with encore! Getting the job out the door is rule number one.

Hi Stan,

Thanks for your message. I have done everything and once imported into encore I get the following:

DVD Transcode Status = video don't transcode audio untranscoded

DVD Transcode Settings = video don't transcode audio automatic

Blu Ray Transcode Status = video untranscoded audio don't transcode

Blu  Ray Transcode Settings = video automatic audio don't transcode

I've attached the report from mediainfo and screenshots of my various settings.

Cheers

Also just as a test I have changed premiere to output as upper field first, which is what encore seems to want on the default settings. The outcome is don't transcode for everything except dvd audio.

So that seems to solve it, I guess the question is what are the downsides of changing the footage from progressive to upper field first? If any?

Also could you elaborate a little on the quality 100% not being the best? I just assumed if I set this as 100% and cracked the bitrate up to the maximum I would get the best result.

Thanks

I had a chance to do a couple tests.

Encore DVD will support a progressive file, but Encore Blu-ray does not. So my answer was misleading.

I don't recall why I have the view I do of the quality slider. Here is the Adobe PR help page. Note that it has not been updated since 2016, and the slider options are now up to 100% rather than 1-5.

Adjusting MPEG encoding quality vs. target bitrate when using the Adobe Media Encoder (Windows)

Your source footage is odd. When someone says "my source is AVI," I think DV, despite it being repeated so often here that it is a wrapper, and tells us very little. You have DivX, 448x336, low bitrate audio etc. If I were putting as much of it as I could on a Blu-ray, I'd use H.264 Blu-ray. There are no presets for SD, but you can change the pixel size. My test came in as Do Not Transcode for BD.

Hi Stan,

Thanks very much for taking the time to run some tests. I've run a few myself and basically if you want to put progressive SD footage on a blu ray you have to amend it to upper field first in order for encore to accept it. Which makes sense as the blu ray mpeg2 and blu ray H264 export options in premiere automatically do this.

I'll now have a play about with exporting as MPEG2 DVD and H264 scaled to 720 x 576 to see how the quality looks for each vs file size.

Once again thanks for your help

Re: Encore CS6 Alternative

I personally found Magix DVD Architect to be a bit non-intuituive when I tried it, and the problems listed in an earlier post seem to share some of the same problems that Encore has.  I am currently using Encore CS6, but want to toss it overboard because I cannot get a Blu-ray burn to work since switching to Premiere Pro CC from CS5.5!  I am currently using Encore only to author my discs, but then write an disc image (ISO file).  I have been using Ashampoo Burning Studio 19 to burn image files (version 2018 is free as of this writing and works well too), and find it to be very reliable and easy to use.  I would really like to find an alternative to using Encore at all!  I want to do my project in Premiere Pro CC, use Media Encoder to complete my project render to final format, but find a good software to author the discs and perhaps burn them as well.  I would be fine continuing with Ashampoo for burning, but I definitely want to find a good software for authoring discs.  It is obvious that Encore is only becoming more obsolete every day (was never very intuitive to begin with), and that Adobe is going to sit on their hands rather than create a good authoring/burning software to replace it.  Any good leads out there?  What are other pros doing to replace Encore in their workflow?

So why not keep an older version of Encore like CS5 or CS6?  Because Adobe will try to find a way to tell you that your old license is 'not genuine' and that you need to stop using it and buy the subscription, which is what happened to me and my CS5 Creative Suite.

Jaggies in Menu

Ok, very frustrating problem here. I have been working on a family history video for some weeks. We had a screening and all was well. People wanted DVDs so I set off to fire up Adobe Encore for the first time in years. I wanted a menu so that there would be a bit of a pause when the disc is inserted. The frustrating part is that the text on the menu...actually just a single word: “Play”...emerges from the DVD build quite jaggy. I have been working on solving this problem for an entire day and am pretty much tired of it. Google implies that others have had similar problems but am able to find no solution. I have been able to reduce the apparent “jagginess” by decreasing the size of the letters and increasing opacity. Probably nobody but me will notice this, but I am just stubborn enough to want to find the proper solution. I hope that a solution will surface in the next day or so.

Details: Win 10 machine. Video: Geforce GTX 1060; 32gb ram

Premiere Project is 1280x720, 29.97; progressive
Encore Project is widescreen; 29.97; lower field.

Thanks in advance. best/pcf

One way for really crisp: put it in the background and use something else for highlight.

It seems Encore is no longer available for Adobe CC subscriptions. Is Elements the only option now? A film festival requires BluRay or DCP and BluRay is far more affordable - but having a tough time figuring out current workflow...

Still available:

This is the link for info re using Encore CS6 with CC:

http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/encore-cs6-installed-cc.html

The screenshot of the cloud desktop is a bit misleading. Just click the arrow by Premiere Pro (not "install") and pick previous versions

You must install the library separately. See the link on that page for instructions.

See the link on that page to the "using" Encore with CC tutorial (Using Encore CS6 with PremierePro CC « DAV's TechTable).

Are you using the text for highlights?

Note that if there is anything other than highlights added to the background (for example a text layer), Encore will render the menu.

I re-did the whole thing from the ground up... took me 4 days.

And at the end of all that, it still didn't work- same error! : (

I then started subtractive diagnosis, I removed the elements one by one until I only had the timelines left and the audio assets and one playlist.  I took subtitles out,  menus out, everything.  And it still failed!  Got down to the bare bones and it failed but didn't give me a Blockplanner error at that point, but FileSpec or something like that.

I am very discouraged and now facing the probability of going over to the MAC in our office and rebuilding it from zero there.  Another 4 days of work.   Thanks Encore.

I wonder if its got something to do with the fact that its Dual Layer?  I wonder if Encore can handle dual layer well?

I have 18 timelines transcoded down to 3.2 bit rate.   I pre-transcoded these, and also let Encore do it.  Same result.

I also have tried running it as admin and moving the assets from the network to the local drive etc etc.  Ran out of ideas... MAC here I come.  :s  But...at least at the end of 4 more days , the MAC DVDSP is sure to work.  Thats a guarantee and at least something.

Re: Can I OPEN an ISO file in Encore

Hi Stan.  I need to import an ISO file created by DVDFabDecripter into Encore to allow me to copy DVD region controlled DVDs. This ridiculous region control system does not allow me to play DVDs from relatives in Australia on my players, so I resort to this.

Windows 10 offers a download to create an ISO virtual disc with a possible limitation for Iso files created by a program on the same PC.

Is this virtual disc what you mean by "iso software drives" or please provide an alternative?

Re: Can I OPEN an ISO file in Encore

My answer was probably wrong back then. Encore does allow you to specify a DVD .iso image file to burn.

But I think you're problem will be that it is not an .iso that is editable in Encore. So I don't think you can change the region.
