Great info Neil. I will pass this along to my client. At least now when anyone asks why the DVD`s I burn don`t look like Hollywood I can direct them to the price tag of Scenarist! DVD Lab Pro seems to get good ratings and bang for the buck, (making Encore a waste of money - urgh) so I`ll look into that program.

Thanks for your help, mate.

Keith

You're welcome.

FYI, Scenarist SD is now only available as a second user resale, as Rovi dropped all forms of it completely last year, and support closes on December 31 this year.

DVD-Lab Pro 2 is a fine piece of software but does have it's own issues (the main one being that it is a 32-bit application & runs out of memory quite easily once you get to 5 or 6 VTS), but in all reality you should not often need that many separate VTS anyway. I also highly recommend getting PGCEdit (drop the man a $50 donation & you get support that is a dream for most apps - extremely fast) to deal with any minor issues you run into because it allows you to reset almost any part of the DVD, including changing navigation, chapter pooints, button colours etc. - it really is a swiss army knife type tool for DVD.

Another thing with DLP is that it does expect you to know how DVD is structured - it's abstraction layer is nowhere near as full-on as Encore and this may be a problem for some.

That said it is a very good tool, and there is excellent help & support available.

It's sad that Encore is no longer being developed. It could have (should have?) been so good with just a few more additions (scripting, scripting, scripting & maybe scripting) and some better support for 5.1 files (LPCM should be there in BluRay as it is the only mandatory stream type for 5.1 lossless) and proper replication facilities for BluRay - this would mean adding AACS scrambling options, but for replication this is mandatory - any BD made with just Encore cannot carry the BD logos for starters.

A real shame.
