Strange, isn't it, that they 'fixed' something that was working?
Some background...my project was a disk of Xmas episodes of old tv shows. I was putting about 50 shows on one disk, so I needed a nice low datarate around 2mbps. That's why I chose not to use a standard preset. As mentioned, you can do the setting manually. I've heard it said that h.264 produces a better quality image than mpeg2, so I tried it both ways, and it's true. Especially at such a low datarate. That's why I'm so disappointed by this outcome.
Sorry, I don't think I made it clear that I was able to use mpeg2, It's just that I consider it an obsolete format to be migrated away from.
