"Not Responding" after startup in CS5

I boot Encore, and either attempt to open a recent project or start a new one, but once I've made my decision and it opens the saved project (or attempts to create a new one) Encore locks me out with the beachball/pinwheel of death.

 

I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mavericks installed. Adobe Production Premium CS5, and  I have not recently made any changes (since installing Mavericks, which has worked fine with Encore until today). No idea why it's decided to start this.

 

Any help is appreciated!
