The version of CS6 I have downloaded from Adobe, says there is a tbb.dll file missing and the application cannot launch. Is there a different version I can download? Although I have uninstalled the Premiere Pro CS6 version, my cloud manager says it is still installed and up to date, how do I solve this conlict? I am using a PC with Windows 8.1.

Just select the button in the menu, go to the Properties tab and click the Transition section.  There you can link to the transition video to be used.

Yes, I'm a CC user and have worked backwards to and DL the CS6 and have been reading.  Sounds like there isn't really an anwser.  I could maybe move my projects to CS6?

DL is not a sufficient advantage. Just export from Premeire/AME, and author in Encore.

If your vidoe is over 30 minutes or so, the trick is calculating the bitrate to maximize quality for your length given you menu etc size.

Or export a lossless intermediate from PR/AME, and let Encore apply its automatic settings to that.

PPro CC projects are not backwards compatible with PPro CS6

Go to the bottom of reply page #5 in The PPro/Encore tutorial list in http://forums.adobe.com/message/2276578 for a link to a tutorial video

Re: Chapter playlists in 23.976P projects

Thanks Stan

Yes I know how 24 (23.976P) works on DVD (29.97 with 3:2 pulldown flags).

I'm not sure how you would know on a settop box check as many modern TVs will de-interlace anyway and may actually analyse the correct 3:2 pulldown.

Anyway on my TV it doesn't look any different so I'm going toassume it's OK..

"that's the thing; all NTSC video on DVD IS 29.97. The 23.976 has pulldown flagged so the player knows how to send it to the TV. So if your video is correct, the chapter playlist will be also. But it is true, Encore shows the chapter playlist as 29.97"

True but my limited knowledge of the DVD spec tells me that flag is introduced at the head of the stream and therefore I figured it would have to be re-introduced on each branching chapter... I told you my knowledge was limited!

Why is Encore CS6 Menu quality so poor/bad?

Hello All,

My client and I are frustrated on the image quality of the menu in Encore when creating a Standard Definition DVD.

The menu source is a .psd. Tried various resolutions and once the dvd is ceated the image is very pixellated and hard to read the text in the logos (see attachment). Also tried making a motion menu with that image by creating a timeline with it in P Pro. Same results.

I understand that this is SD and that the customer is playing back the 720 x 480 image on a high resolution monitor which doesn't help.

The videos portions of the DVD are OK (mpg2) and the graphics hold up a lot better in the video portions.

Would appreciate any advice on this issue as my client and I are very frustrated.

I will try and test this on another system today.

What do you think about a hardware/software (something other than Encore) solution to create a decent looking DVD?

Thanks in advance,

John

This is a full frame screen shot from the DVD.

Thanks for reporting that the outcome looks right. The ultimate test!

A chapter playlist is based on a single timeline, and the better option would be for Encore to display using the same method it does for the timeline and show the 23.976. But Encore has plenty of issues like this. The chapter playlist is one of those "abstraction layer" things where the application's code is doing something that gets translated at the build stage (if not before) into the DVD spec. My assumption was that Encore is taking the easy way out and just reporting the technical DVD fps for a construct such as "chapter playlist" even if it will correctly process the stream.

"Please select a division icon" - in the psd/menu are these buttons or background image?

What is the pixel size and par of the original psd that you are using for the menu?

The screenshot you have posted is 1920x1200. When I try to see what it might really look like at its 720x480 DVD size (change par or DV widescreen, downrez) it does look too bad, considering that there is a lot of small detail.

At what stage are you downrezzing? Often users leave this to Encore, a very poor option.

The entire frame at such a point is red? Or just a red tint? Or only part of the frame is red?

These can be dropped frames or a bug.

What specific Operating system and versions of Encore and Premiere?

Stan,

The 12 icons are layers in the .psd and will become buttons.

Just created and tested a new .psd per encore sd widescreen specs: 720x480, 1.2 PAR (still looks fuzzy).

The screenshot was from my working monitor which I think is part of the problem - viewing 720x480 image on a hires monitor.

Downrezzing? Are there resolution settings for menus in Encore?

Thanks for the reply,

John

That rules out the recent prores red frames issue.

Red frames can be introduced by Encore to show corrupt frames or to keep sync.

They can also indicate a video driver issue.

What is your asset? If an exported file, are they present in that file?
